Life Planet: When Colors Become a Method
Life Planet did something that goes beyond bringing a technology into the club: it turned Uptivo's intensity zones into a method people recognize, one that carries the member from the first trial through to training consistently. That is how Allenamento a Colori was born, today an integral part of the Life Planet identity and experience.

Getting a result means being satisfied. And being satisfied means staying loyal to the club.

In their own words
Opened in Ravenna in 1999, Life Planet is a multipurpose center of around 3,000 square meters that brings together fitness, a pool, a spa and services devoted to health and wellbeing. With about 3,000 members, the club is aimed above all at people looking for fitness, wellbeing and training that fits who they are.
From heart rate zones to a Life Planet method
Allenamento a Colori, training in color, started in 2019, when Life Planet set out to relaunch a room that was not delivering the results it should have. The goal was not simply to introduce a new class, but to build an offering with a clear identity and a different way of guiding people through the activity.
Uptivo and the Lightband sensor gave the club somewhere to start. Heart rate zones, shown on screen through colors anyone can recognize, made intensity instantly readable: the member sees how hard they are working, while the trainer can follow how the session is going and step in in real time.
Life Planet turned that visual language into something wider. Colors, data and goals became the building blocks of a method that makes training accessible even to people with no familiarity with numbers or physiological parameters. It is not the member who has to interpret the data: it is the color that tells them, simply, where they are and how to keep going.
An experience that starts before anyone joins
The first encounter with the method happens during the trial itself. In a Turbo Met session, the prospective member takes part in a functional workout while intensity, calories and points take shape on the screen.
The trainer uses the data to guide the person as they train, and at the end the report gives a clear account of the work done. The trial becomes a concrete demonstration of the Life Planet approach: the participant is not simply given a presentation of a service, but experiences from the outset a workout that is guided, measurable and personal. According to the club, around 90% of the people who try Turbo Met go on to join.
After joining, the experience continues with an initial three month program. New members learn to read the color zones, understand how the monitoring works and discover the goals attached to the activity. Uptivo lets tutors follow workouts through the app and send feedback based on calories, points and time spent in each zone. If someone does not train for more than five days, the tutor is notified and can get back in touch.
This way the data does not stay confined to a single class, but feeds a relationship that continues over time. Activities recorded with the Lightband away from the club, such as a walk, a bike ride or a swim, can become part of the program the trainer follows.
When Allenamento a Colori goes into the water
One of the most distinctive expressions of the method is the way it works in the pool. Life Planet says it was the first center in Italy to bring Uptivo telemetry into water activities, where perceived effort can be particularly hard to judge.
In an aqua fitness class a person can come away feeling they trained hard without ever reaching the intended level of work. With each participant's color zone on the screen, the instructor can recognize the actual intensity straight away and help the person correct their pace while they are still training.
Color makes visible what the water hides, and creates a shared reference between trainer and member. By now it is simply part of how the club works: among the roughly 400 members who use the pool regularly, Life Planet says 80% use the Uptivo device.
From data to relationship, from consistency to results
Real time monitoring has also changed how trainers follow people outside the pool. Before, an instructor had to rely mainly on a member's face, or on how the member said it had felt once the session was over. Today they can watch the effort as it happens, speak directly to the participant shown on the screen and give targeted guidance even in the middle of a group class.
Inside Allenamento a Colori, gamification reinforces that relationship by making progress easy to see. Points, milestones and prizes are not extras bolted on at the end of the journey, but the tools Life Planet uses to reward consistency and give people a next goal to aim at.
In the MET-CIRCUIT program, around 2,000 points earns the "Vinco a Colori" wristband and 4,000 points a t-shirt, while Turbo Met adds further awards at 8,000 and 24,000 points. Each milestone turns a small victory into something real: the member sees the result achieved, feels recognized and has a reason to keep going.
When technology becomes identity
Today around 1,500 Life Planet members use the Lightband and, according to the club's own figures, the sensor is chosen by roughly 75% of new joiners. Every year, on top of that, between 500 and 600 people arrive through referrals and word of mouth connected in part to the Allenamento a Colori experience.
The numbers show how far Uptivo has worked its way into how Life Planet presents its service, runs its classes and follows its members. But the truly distinctive part is how the club used the technology: not as an isolated feature, but as the foundation of a coherent experience that ties together the trial, the training, the tutoring and the motivation.
Getting a result means being satisfied. And being satisfied means staying loyal to the club.

Uptivo made intensity and progress visible; Life Planet turned them into a language of its own and into a method. It is in the step from colors on a screen to Allenamento a Colori that technology becomes part of the club's identity.
