Officina25: Uptivo monitoring built into the Small Group service

Officina25 provides the Lightbands and its trainers put the data to work in class. That is how the club adds to what it offers its members.

Uptivo has been a wonderful discovery. We've used it for years.

In their own words

At Officina25, heart rate monitoring is a choice the club has made. The club provides the Lightbands for its members and the trainers use the data in class. That means a member can train with Uptivo without buying a sensor of their own. The technology is part of the service they get on the floor.

That fits a club built on quality and on training shaped around each member. The club is for people who treat exercise as essential to their health and wellbeing, and it saw monitoring as one more way to add to what it offers them.

Lightbands the club provides for its members

The club supplies the sensors itself because it wants to offer a service that is more polished and more personal to each member. The Lightband becomes part of the club's offer and supports the trainer's work during the session.

Today Uptivo is used in two rooms by somewhere between 50 and 60 members. Introducing the Small Group sessions was an important step. The new format gave monitoring more room and encouraged more consistent use of the platform.

For Officina25, bringing Uptivo into the Small Group sessions has helped members see more value in the service. Providing the sensors and using the data in the session are two sides of the same choice: to make monitoring part of the class itself.

Uptivo has been a wonderful discovery. We've used it for years. We use it in both small group and personal training sessions to track our clients' progress.

The number on the screen becomes a target

The trainers use live heart rate to set small targets within each workout. What is on the screen then feeds into how the session is run, alongside the trainer's instructions and encouragement.

This is what makes the device worth wearing. The Lightband takes the reading, Uptivo puts it on the screen and the trainer turns it into a target to work towards.

Officina25 finds its members strongly motivated, partly by the way the trainers draw them in and partly by their own interest in the numbers on the screen, including calories burned. So monitoring gives them one more way of being involved in the class.

More involvement for the trainers too

Bringing in a monitoring tool has gone down well with the staff too. Officina25 notes that the trainers are more enthusiastic now that they have data to lean on in their work on the floor.

The club also reports benefits for member retention. In its experience, where Uptivo is used consistently, members stay involved and the trainers are glad of another way to keep an eye on their sessions.

A service that can grow

For now the focus is on heart rate and calories. Officina25 would like to look more closely at the platform's other features, partly to weigh up whether to extend Uptivo to other classes.

What began with the Small Group sessions shows how monitoring can fit into a club's service. The club provides the sensors, the trainer uses the data and the member gets the benefit during the workout. For Officina25, it is one of the choices that shape the quality of what it offers.
