COMPARISON
Polar Club Alternative for Gyms and Fitness Clubs | Uptivo
Do you want to tell your members which brand of wearable they are allowed to own? Here is what changes with Uptivo.
What this comparison covers
This comparison covers what decides the outcome of a heart-rate programme in a real club: how many members actually take part, what you have to install and maintain, what happens to a member between sessions, and how much of your operation the platform can carry. It is not an assessment of everything Polar sells. It is based on publicly available product information reviewed on 11 August 2026; availability may vary by product, plan, market and configuration.
The short version
Polar states that Polar Club works with all Polar sport and fitness watches and Polar heart-rate sensors, including the H10, H9 and Verity Sense. Members either own a Polar device or borrow one from the club. It runs from an iPad connected to a TV or projector, and shows up to 90 participants.
That is a sensor business with an app attached, and it puts your club in the position of telling members what to wear.
Uptivo supports a wide range of compatible Bluetooth LE and ANT+ heart-rate devices, runs in every room rather than the one with the iPad, and continues past the class into coaching, programming, bookings, payments, access control and business intelligence on one member record.
The question your members will ask first
“I already have a Garmin. Can I use it?”
With Polar Club the compatible devices on Polar’s own Club page are Polar devices. So the answer is that they buy one, or you buy one for them, and either way somebody pays before anybody trains.
With Uptivo the answer is usually yes, and they are on the screen in the next class. That single exchange, repeated across a membership, is the difference between a heart-rate programme that fills and one that stalls in month two with the same forty enthusiasts.
It also protects you. A club standardised on one manufacturer has tied its class experience to that manufacturer’s pricing, stock and product roadmap. Devices inherited from an earlier system become landfill instead of inventory.
The differences that decide it
Which wearables count. Polar Club: Polar watches and Polar sensors, club-provided or member-owned. Uptivo: a wide range of compatible Bluetooth LE and ANT+ devices, Polar sensors included, so nothing your members own becomes useless.
How many rooms. Polar Club runs from an iPad connected to a screen, in the room that iPad is in. Uptivo coverage follows the browser or the Bridge, across the studio, the functional area and the gym floor.
Class size. Polar states up to 90 participants. Uptivo scales with configuration, across multiple rooms and stations.
Where the member’s data lives. With Polar it lives in the member’s own Polar Flow account. Your coaches and your programming do not sit inside it. With Uptivo it feeds the coaching your club delivers, and your churn reporting.
Between sessions. Automated coaching that briefs your trainers and follows every member individually is not documented for Polar Club. In Uptivo it is a module.
The rest of your club. Bookings, memberships, payments and access control are not documented for Polar Club. In Uptivo they run on the same member record.
Availability may vary by plan, device, market and configuration. Where a capability is described as not documented, it means we did not find it in the public documentation reviewed on 11 August 2026.
Where Uptivo goes further
Brand independence, and what it does to your numbers
Uptivo supports a wide range of compatible Bluetooth LE and ANT+ heart-rate devices, including monitors your members already own. Compatibility depends on the device’s broadcast profile, firmware and configuration, so before you commit to anything we check the devices actually in circulation in your club and tell you exactly what carries over.
Three things follow, and all three land on your P&L. Members join the programme without a purchase standing in the way, so participation climbs before you have spent anything on hardware. Mixed kit inherited from an earlier system keeps working instead of being replaced. And your class experience stops depending on one manufacturer’s catalogue. Where you do want to supply devices, the Uptivo Lightband puts LED zone feedback on the arm: an option, never a requirement.
One room, or the whole club
Uptivo Snap turns a screen you already own into a live heart-rate class. No dedicated Uptivo hardware is required; you need a compatible screen or tablet, an internet connection and supported member devices. Your next class can run on it. Not next quarter, after an installation: your next class.
Where you want permanent coverage, the Uptivo Bridge is a dedicated appliance, not a general-purpose computer. No customer-managed general-purpose workstation is required, and Bridge software and appliance updates are managed by Uptivo, so it is not one more machine your team has to look after. Bridges link over an embedded mesh: you cover a new room by adding a Bridge, not by pulling cable.
A class can move between rooms, run across stations in a circuit, or cover the functional area, instead of living wherever the iPad is plugged in.
The recovery data your club never gets to use
A member trains for an hour and lives the other twenty-three. Sleep, stress and heart-rate variability decide what that hour was worth and whether the next one should push or hold back. With Polar, that data sits in Polar Flow, the member’s private app, and it requires them to be wearing Polar. Your coaches never see it, and you cannot build a service on it.
Uptivo imports sleep, stress and heart-rate variability from the wearables members already use, through Apple Health, Health Connect and Garmin Connect, where the member chooses to connect them. That data feeds the coaching your club sells.
Nate, the Uptivo AI coach, is built into the platform. It briefs your trainers on what actually happened in a member’s last session, then follows every member your trainers will never have the hours to reach: chat in the member’s own language, feedback after every session, and plans that move with heart-rate history, training load and, where the member connects them, sleep and recovery from Apple Health, Health Connect and Garmin Connect. Personal training reaches a small fraction of most memberships. Nate is how you serve the rest of them, and how you sell a coaching tier to members who will never buy one-to-one.
Uptivo Performance Points are calculated against each member’s own estimated maximum heart rate, so the deconditioned beginner in row three earns the same recognition as the marathon runner beside her for the same relative effort. She stays. No additional UPPs are awarded above 94% of estimated maximum heart rate: the score is engineered to reward the member who comes back on Thursday, not the one who empties the tank on Monday and disappears. Ten levels, Rookie to Titanic, take four years of sustained consistency at 2,000 UPPs a month, and a member with two years invested in your club does not casually cancel.
The club, not just the class
With Uptivo the same platform also carries:
Bookings, memberships and payments: calendars, waiting lists, renewals, medical certificates and lead management in one workspace.
Programming and video-guided workouts across stations, from a library of more than 1,300 exercises, so a circuit runs without an instructor standing at every post.
Access control by QR code with Uptivo Gate, with or without a barrier, every rule checked in real time.
Uptivo Dash: revenue, attendance and a churn risk score for every member on one screen, with the revenue at risk in euros and a three-month forecast.
Uptivo is modular, so nothing is forced on you: run the live class alone and add the rest when it pays for itself. What disappears is the tax you pay every month reconciling one member across four suppliers.
Your data, your brand
Uptivo provides API access to supported data and integrations, subject to permissions, technical scope and commercial terms, and the member app can carry your brand instead of ours. Your members belong to your club, not to a supplier’s app.
Who Uptivo is built for
Clubs that refuse to tell members which brand of wearable they are allowed to own. Clubs that want live heart-rate training in every room, not the one with the iPad. Clubs that want sleep and recovery data reaching their coaches instead of staying locked in a member’s private app. Clubs that know retention is decided between sessions. Clubs that would rather run bookings, payments, the door and churn reporting on one member record. And operators running several sites who want club-level pricing within a user tier.
Switching from Polar Club
Uptivo runs alongside your current setup during the transition. No class goes without a system, the timetable does not move, and members keep training with the devices they already have. Polar sensors are among the compatible devices, so the straps your members already own keep working.
On history: migration may be available subject to source-system access, compatible export formats, consent requirements and the agreed import scope. Tell us which system holds your data and we will tell you before you sign what can realistically move, rather than after. There is more on our migration page.
What members rate the apps
The app a Polar Club member lives in is Polar Flow. On the Apple App Store, United States storefront, Polar Flow averages 4.6 from 49,599 ratings. On Google Play it averages 2.8 from about 181,000 ratings. The Uptivo app averages 4.9 from 345 ratings on the App Store and 4.4 from 622 reviews on Google Play.
That Android figure is not a small sample and it is not noise: 2.8 across roughly 181,000 ratings. Around half your members are on Android, and Polar Flow is the app you would be asking them to use every day. Polar Club itself is the instructor app, averaging 4.8 from 143 ratings, which is a different product for a different user and is listed here separately for that reason.
Average ratings and rating counts read on 11 August 2026 on the Apple App Store, United States storefront, and on Google Play. Ratings change over time, and counts are shown alongside the scores. Compared apps are member-facing apps unless stated otherwise.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best alternative to Polar Club for fitness clubs?
If the constraint you want gone is being tied to one sensor brand, you want a device-agnostic system. Uptivo supports a wide range of compatible Bluetooth LE and ANT+ monitors and adds coaching, programming and club operations on the same platform.
What is the difference between Uptivo and Polar Club?
Polar Club is a group heart-rate app built around Polar sensors, run from an iPad in one room. Uptivo supports a wide range of compatible Bluetooth LE and ANT+ devices, runs in every room from a browser or an appliance, and continues past the class into coaching, programming, CRM, access control and churn reporting.
Do Polar sensors keep working with Uptivo?
Yes, Polar sensors are among the compatible devices, so nothing your members already own becomes useless. Compatibility depends on the device’s broadcast profile, firmware and configuration, and we check your specific models before you commit.
Is a dedicated studio required?
No. Coverage follows the Bridge or the browser, so classes run in the functional area, the cycling room or across stations in a circuit.
Can a club migrate from Polar Club to Uptivo?
Yes, and it runs in parallel so no class goes without a system. Historical data migration may be available subject to source-system access, compatible export formats, consent requirements and the agreed import scope.
Does Uptivo include CRM and workout management?
Yes, as modules: bookings, memberships and payments, programming with more than 1,300 exercises, and churn reporting in Uptivo Dash. See our gym management software overview.
Is Uptivo suitable for multi-site fitness operators?
Yes: multi-location support, one member record across every site, club-level pricing within the selected user tier, and API access to supported data and integrations subject to permissions, technical scope and commercial terms.
